Setting/ Stage

When we discussed how we pictured the set, we agreed that although we wanted it to be set in the forest, it should take place in a clearing to allow for dynamic movement and easier viewing. Stump and rock props would be placed in the acting area so that characters could interact with them in ways that allowed for leaning and sitting, creating a variation of possible movements outsides of standing and walking. At least one of these props would be upstage, allowing Celia to lounge against it in the background. Larger tree props would curve into stage right and stage left, creating the illusion of a small refuge from a dense forest where our scene is taking place. We also wanted the set to capture the mystical feeling of the Forest of Arden. If designing a real set, in pursuit of that goal we would create a thickly forested, dark green upstage area with dusk coloring and twinkling fairy lights, to create the impression of a magical forest.

Set Design

Big set pieces that typically don't move. They are used to creative the setting.

Our set would have similarities to this one, although we would adjust the background colors to contain blues, purples, pinks, and yellows, rather than black and blue.

This is another example of what our stage would incorporate, in particular the use of trees against a dusky background and lighting.

Stage Props

Larger props that help set the scene but can be easily
moved for scene transitions.
