Rosalind: Pocket watch
Celia: Handkerchief
We gave Rosalind a pocketwatch so that she could use it in her dramatic moments and her moments when she's concerned about time. As Orlando leaves, she uses it to show her frustration with time. The pocket watch itself is gold so that it fits with the overall mood of the scene, but it is a darker color to show that Time is not in favor of dreamy love. While it fits in with the scene it is still a reminder that Orlando has to leave eventually. The watch is large, so that the audience can see its outline even while it is in Rosalind's pocket. This is a reminder that they only have a moment together in this scene, although they are deeply in love.
Celia has very few lines in this scene because she is mostly observing the interaction between Rosalind and Orlando. Because of this we gave her a handkerchief so that she could express her reactions to them non-verbally without attracting too much attention. She plays with it idly as she observes them. The handkerchief itself is purple, which adds more dreamlike color to the scene, while also emphasizing her femininity and royalty. It is simple and has no pattern on it, and is of good quality without appearing extravagant.
Orlando: Saddle Bag
Orlando uses his bag as he prepares to leave Rosalind. It shows the transition and signifies his departure. The bag was once very nice but has been worn and has a few small holes in it. There is only one compartment in it, which shows that Orlando throws all of his belongings into the same pocket. Since all of his attention is focused on Rosalind, he doesn't care that his belongings are all jumbled around in his bag. The bag is brown, which matches the forest and tree trunks; it is still clearly man made which shows that he is not originally from the forest.
