WHAT IS RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION?
A SYSTEMATIC MISTREATMENT
OF AN INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS AS A RESPONSE OF THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS OR AFFLICTIONS OR LAKE THEREOF. (DEFINITIONS.NET)

A 3/4 of the worlds population live in countries where there are restrictions on religious freedom by non-state groups and by the government. According to Article 18 of The Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance." By persecuting against another for their religion is a violation of their human rights. Religious Persecution often occurs against religious minorities who share the same ethic background and also suffer social and economic isolation. This is a growing epidemic.
HOW IS IT A SOCIAL JUSTICE/
HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE?

WHY DID WE
CHOSE THIS TOPIC?
Although not everyone in the Group 21 is religious we find it is important to learn about religious persecution because it is wrong to mistreat an individual or group based on their religious belief. It is against basic human rights to do so. This is a growing epidemic that is not widely broadcast in the news. It is within our duty as future media workers to spread the word. By publishing a website we are not just reaching our Social Justice and Human Rights class at University of Nebraska - Lincoln but also people around the world.
